The 20th International Convention of the East Asian Economic Association (EAEA) will take place on 8-9 November 2025 in Manila, Philippines, featuring selected draft papers on Glacial Melt. Glaciers are crucial for providing water for drinking, irrigation, and energy to billions in Asia, but climate change is causing rapid glacial retreat, impacting various regions differently. In response, the UN General Assembly has designated 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (IYGP). The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has initiated two programs: the Building Adaptation and Resilience in the Hindu Kush Himalayas (BARHKH) initiative and the Glaciers to Farms program, aimed at addressing the challenges posed by glacial melt. However, there is a notable lack of economic analysis regarding glacial melt, prompting a call for submissions that provide evidence-based recommendations to mitigate its effects. The focus is on developing inclusive, practical, scalable, and durable solutions to reduce risks for communities and infrastructure, enhance disaster resilience, and establish financing systems for such projects. Submissions should address various topics, including the economic and social impacts of glacial melt, investment needs for adaptation, and policy frameworks for management. Abstracts must be submitted in English, including specific details about the research and its originality. Important deadlines include the submission of extended abstracts by 15 April 2025 and draft papers by 15 July 2025. Selected authors will present their work at the convention, with opportunities for further discussion at the ADB. Funding will be provided for one author per selected draft paper from ADB member countries, covering travel and accommodation, along with an honorarium of $5,000 for the corresponding author upon approval of deliverables. The event is organized in partnership with the ADB and EAEA.
