Green light from the European Parliament's Budget Committee for the first report outlining priorities for the next long-term EU budget post-2027. The focus is on competitiveness and strategic investments, increased efforts on defense and security, spending flexibility, simplification, and a call to use the EU budget to address current geopolitical, economic, and environmental challenges. In the report, adopted today by the European Parliament's Budget Committee with 23 votes in favor, 9 against, and 2 abstentions, MEPs emphasize the need for a significantly more ambitious Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028-2034 that can meet the growing expectations of EU citizens in a rapidly changing global context.

In May, the Budgets Committee report will be voted on during the Parliament's plenary session, defining Strasbourg's position and making an important contribution to the Commission's proposal for the next long-term EU budget (which Brussels is expected to present in July).

EU Budget Post-2027: The Budget Committee's Report

While the new post-2027 EU budget must protect long-standing priorities such as agriculture and cohesion, it must also reflect and respond to the Union's new needs, such as competitiveness and defense.
