With the communication “The road to the next multiannual financial framework,” the European Commission has outlined the principles that will guide the proposal for the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) expected in July.
Competitiveness Fund and National Plans: How the Next EU Budget Will Change
In line with the Competitiveness Compass, National Plans and the Competitiveness Fund will be the main novelties of the MFF 2028-34, while new own resources will need to ensure the repayment of the NextGenerationEU debt. Brussels has launched a series of public consultations on the proposals, which will remain open until May 7.
The 15-page document published on February 12 by the European Commission serves as the basis for discussions between EU institutions and stakeholders on the next EU multiannual budget. This discussion also involves a series of public consultations launched by the Commission, the establishment of a panel of 150 citizens, and the launch of an online platform. The goal is to present the legislative proposal for the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) by July, which is set to come into effect on January 1, 2028.
