The Government of Bangladesh has taken a systematic approach towards renewable energy development.
Accordingly a Renewable Energy Policy has been adopted in 2009. Through that policy GOB has declared to generate 2,000 MW ofelectricity from renewable sources by 2020.
In the course of promoting a renewable energy development program in Bangladesh, the national Electricity Generation Company (EGCBL) has identified a potential grid-connected renewable energy project. The proposed project is to develop 100 MW through solar photovoltaic energy and 100 MW from wind, at Sonagazi Upazilla under Feni District.
The purposes of the feasibility study are:
- to assess the Feni site for possible solar PV and wind system installations;
- to estimate the costs and the site impacts of different technology options,
- to explore various development and financing options ranging from pure public development to Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Independent Power Producer (IPP) modalities.
