EU Bioeconomy Strategy: Public Consultation Launched to Shape the Future of the Sector

Ahead of the launch of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy at the end of the year, Brussels has initiated a public consultation to gather input and feedback on the priorities that should be addressed by the future Strategy in order to foster the growth of this sector within the EU. The rationale behind the consultation was further explained by the Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall. “This consultation,” commented the Commissioner, “is an essential tool to collect as many ideas as possible to shape the future bioeconomy strategy, reflecting the needs and aspirations of citizens, businesses, farmers, foresters, and other stakeholders.”

The Bioeconomy Sector in Europe and Worldwide

With a turnover that reached €728 billion in added value in 2021 and employment exceeding 8% of the European workforce, the bioeconomy is a significant sector of the EU’s productive base, with even greater growth potential.
