With the Action Plan for Affordable Energy, the action plan launched by the European Commission within the framework of the Clean Industrial Deal, Brussels aims to make energy accessible to all by addressing bills, completing the Energy Union, attracting investments, and preparing for energy crises. Guide to the next EU initiatives against high energy costs.
Competitiveness Compass: Innovation, Sustainability, and Security at the Core
As an integral part of the Clean Industrial Deal, the Brussels Plan for Affordable Energy aims to address the problem of high energy costs, a weakness for the competitiveness of European businesses and a serious social issue, resulting in energy poverty for over 46 million EU citizens.
With the Action Plan for Affordable Energy, the Commission aims to reduce energy costs and stimulate growth and investments, while promoting the decarbonization of the sector. Around the four pillars of the Plan, Brussels plans to launch eight actions, including measures to lower energy bills in the short term, accelerate the implementation of necessary structural reforms for cost savings, and strengthen European energy systems to mitigate future price shocks. Overall, these measures should contribute to a true Energy Union and generate savings of 130 billion euros annually by 2030 (0.65% of GDP).
