The European Steel and Metals Action Plan comes just two weeks after the launch of the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of the European Steel Sector, in which Brussels involved key leaders of the European industry and other stakeholders in the steel sector.
As highlighted by the Commission itself, the Steel and Metals Action Plan represents a further step towards achieving the goals of the EU Competitiveness Compass and is closely linked to another significant plan presented by Brussels today: Rearm Europe, which aims to mobilize 800 billion for investments in security and defense.
More specifically, the Commission's strategy for the steel industry is centered around six pillars: ensuring clean and accessible energy for all; preventing "carbon leakage"; promoting and protecting European industrial capacities; incentivizing metal circularity; defending quality industrial jobs; reducing risks through leading markets and investment support.
