Call 2024 CEF Transport: 2,5 billion to build and renew EU transport infrastructure

The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has launched the new 2024 calls under the CEF for transport, making available 2.5 billion euros to build and modernize transport infrastructure in the EU and CEF-associated countries, namely Ukraine and Moldova.

The projects to be funded will contribute to expanding and modernizing the trans-European transport network (TEN-T), making its mobility more sustainable, smart, interoperable, and resilient. In this way, CEF Transport will continue to contribute to the EU's goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050, as established in the Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.

Types of Projects Eligible for Funding under the 2024 Call

Today, October 2, during a webinar on the 2024 Call, CINEA experts outlined the requirements that projects must meet based on their clusters, from rail transport to intermodal passenger hubs.

Eligible Projects in the Rail Transport Sector

For the topic focused on core, extended core, and comprehensive rail networks – which provides a co-financing rate in the Cohesion Fund line of up to 85% – the projects that can be supported by the 2024 Call must concern:

  • The construction and enhancement of cross-border links;
  • The enhancement of capacity and performance of existing lines;
  • Increasing capacity in rail nodes;
  • Interconnections with other modes of transport;
  • Connecting freight terminals to the TEN-T network;
  • Railway electrification;
  • European Rail Traffic Management Systems (ERTMS).
