The European Parliament is stressing the need to provide cohesion policy with at least the same level of funding as in the 2021-2027 financial period, establishing a new fund for the post-2027 programming period to be defined as Just Transition Fund II.
The hemicycle remarks that Member States and regional authorities need additional resources to address the new challenges of digital and green transition. The new fund should be based on NUTS 3 level, which includes region between 150 and 800 thousand inhabitants. The European chamber proposes to use a revised allocation method and limit access to this fund to regions with high CO2 per capita, providing them with more financial means than the current JTF and a wider scope. This would imply “the need to differentiate between climate mitigation and adaptation”, the members of the Parliament said
