Training and workshops: Workshop: Perspectives on purchasing programme* for CRCF- How to finance large-scale deployment of carbon farming ?
On 20 May 2025, the Directorate-General for Climate Action of the European Commission is hosting an afternoon workshop on carbon farming financing models. To reach its climate neutrality target by 2050, the EU must drastically reduce emissions and scale up carbon removals. As part of this strategy, the EU has developed the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Certification Framework (CRCF) with the aim to create a trusted system for certifying high-quality carbon removals and to unlock new funding opportunities, especially through voluntary markets and public-private incentives. Carbon farming, a key pillar of the CRCF, intends to generate qualitative certified removal credits and new income streams for farmers by increasing the amount of carbon stored in soils and vegetation through sustainable practices on the ground. This interactive workshop aims to discuss how to finance the large-scale deployment of carbon farming in the EU. Through engaging presentations and discussions, participants will gain valuable insights on existing key national financing mechanisms, alongside innovative private initiatives (e.g., Livelihood Funds) that could shape a future purchasing programme for carbon farming. The sessions aim to answer the following key questions: What are the needs and motivations of buyers and investors, as well as the potential barriers and challenges to address? What are the key success factors that should be retained for the structuring of carbon farming financing? How to structure an effective purchasing programme and what is the role of public and private investors? Event Details: Date: Tuesday 20 May 2025 Time: 13:00 - 17:00 (CEST) Location: European Commission Live streaming: Available Programme Time (CEST) Session 13:00 - 13:30 Welcoming coffee 13:30 - 14:45 Opening by DG Clima - CRCF financing stakes 14:45 - 15:15 Presentation of innovative and inspiring public and private financing mechanisms 15:15 - 15:45 Coffee Break 15:45 - 16:45 Panellist Discussion 2 - Designing the right financing model of purchasing program for the Carbon Farming Deployment 16:45 - 17:00 Closing from DG Clima

The 5th European Conference on Connected and Automated Driving (EUCAD 2025) will bring together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to take stock of the latest advancements and address the challenges of cooperative, connected and automated mobility (CCAM) deployment in Europe. EUCAD 2025 is organised by the European Commission jointly with the European Partnership on CCAM and the FAME project. Automation in road transport is pivotal for advancing the European Commission's key policy priorities of greening and digitalising our societies, industries and economies. Recent years have seen significant progress in Europe, with automated solutions supported by landmark regulatory frameworks such as the EU Automated Driving Systems Regulation already emerging at scale. However, further large-scale testing, demonstrations and collaboration among stakeholders are essential to accelerate implementation and overcome barriers, ensuring a seamless transition to CCAM. As we move towards large-scale demonstrations by 2030, we must continue to advance the technology readiness and maturity of CCAM solutions to capitalise on the R&I results achieved so far under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. At EUCAD 2025, thought leaders will share their insights on the challenges and opportunities surrounding the development and deployment of CCAM solutions, with contributions from international speakers offering global perspectives.

NID4BirdLIFE: Nature-Inclusive Design solution to support the Black-legged Kittiwake in Belgium
The fifth webinar in the LIFE co-funded Renewables Grid Initiative’s (RGI) Nature Inclusive Design (NID) series spotlights the new LIFE project, NID4BirdLIFE , which aims to support the Black-legged Kittiwake and other seabirds through the integration of bird-focused NID solutions at the Princess Elisabeth Energy Island in Belgium. As offshore renewable energy infrastructure rapidly expands to meet the EU’s 2030 and 2050 climate objectives, this project highlights the potential to simultaneously enhance marine biodiversity. While existing NID efforts mainly address underwater habitats, NID4BirdLIFE shifts attention to above-water species by developing ecological design measures that can be incorporated into offshore energy projects. The webinar will feature insights from key experts involved in the project and will discuss how this initiative conceptualises, tests and implements practical solutions to create safer and more supportive environments for seabirds like the kittiwake.
