InfoPoint Conference: Supporting Independent Media through Global Partnerships
The European Commission is organizing a conference to support independent media through global partnerships. The event will take place on Thursday, 5 December 2024, from 15:00 to 16:30 (CET) in Brussels, Belgium.
Media freedom and pluralism are essential for democracy, good governance, and sustainable development. The Commission has launched Financial Framework Partnership Agreements (FFPAs) to support independent media until the end of 2027. These agreements involve three consortia led by Internews, BBC Media Action, and Free Press Unlimited, partnering with various European, international, and Global South organizations.
The conference will present the FFPAs, analyze challenges facing independent media, and preview selected projects. The projects aim to strengthen journalists' resilience, combat hate speech, and build cross-border networks. They will be implemented in over 20 countries with a budget of EUR 20 million.
Speakers include Chiara Adamo, Camila Ferro, Ruth de Vries, Farhod Rahmatov, Meera Selva, Andrew Harrington, and Camilla Palazzini. The event will be moderated by Claire Bigg.
Registration is available for onsite and online participation.
