The proposal comes from the report “Energy Security in the age of electricity” prepared by Compass Lexecon on behalf of Eurelectric, an association representing the interests of the European electricity industry. In light of the energy crisis and changes in the traditional energy model, analysts emphasize the need to develop a new approach to energy supply security (SoS - Security of Supply 2.0) in Europe.
The exogenous factors driving changes in the energy system analyzed in the report are mainly three: geopolitical events and resilience risks; the evolution of the macroeconomic context (particularly rising energy prices and inflation); and new “hybrid threats” (such as cyberattacks).
Considering the context, the study's authors provide some policy recommendations to fill gaps and ensure supply security in a net-zero emissions world.
