Practical Data Science in Financial Supervision, an ADBI – Cambridge Alternative Finance Collaboration Network Asia Pacific Course

The course aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to drive the strategic agenda and responsible use of data science in addressing real-world supervisory challenges, running from 24 March to 5 May 2025. It recognizes that the rapid pace of technological development presents both opportunities and challenges for financial regulators, especially in emerging economies. Digital transformation is reshaping the regulatory landscape, leading to new business models and significant shifts in market dynamics. Many officials in government and financial authorities face difficulties in creating effective regulatory frameworks and integrating digital tools due to a lack of resources, updated skills, and personnel capacity. To address this knowledge gap, the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), in collaboration with the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF) and the Cambridge Judge Business School Executive Education Limited (JBSEEL), has developed the Practical Data Science in Financial Supervision course. This program is designed to provide essential data science skills to tackle supervisory challenges, optimize policy tools, and enhance compliance among financial regulators. The ADBI is offering scholarships to government policymakers and financial authority officials from developing member countries of the ADB to facilitate their participation. The course will enable participants to develop practical familiarity with data science, gain proficiency in advanced analytics and machine learning, enhance their technical skills and communication abilities, and deepen their understanding of data governance and ethics. The target audience includes up to 35 government officials from national ministries of finance, financial authorities, and macroeconomic regulatory bodies in developing member countries. The course's design and delivery are managed by the Cambridge SupTech Lab and its partners.
