The New Industrial Policy Landscape of East and Southeast Asia: Regional Launch of UNIDO Industrial Development Report 2024 and ADBI Session on Green Industrial Policy

The report will delve into the economic, technological, institutional, and environmental dimensions of industrial policy, reflecting the unique regional dynamics of Asia and the Pacific. The region has a rich history of effectively utilizing industrial policy, as seen in countries like Japan, China, Indonesia, and South Korea. A dedicated panel discussion, moderated by ADBI, will focus on how industrial policy can facilitate the green transition, discussing strategies such as targeted subsidies for renewable energy, tax incentives for energy efficiency, and investments in green infrastructure. The event will also address potential risks, including high costs and international competition for subsidies, which may impact productivity and innovation.
