The Current State of AI in Africa
Despite the promising prospects of AI, Africa faces substantial challenges in its adoption and implementation. According to the AfDB, many African nations lack the necessary digital infrastructure, which hampers their ability to leverage AI effectively. The continent's average AI readiness index is alarmingly low at 26.91, indicating a pressing need for investment and development in this area.
Leading countries such as Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, and Tunisia show some progress with index values above 40; however, none have surpassed the critical threshold of 50. This situation underscores the urgency for African governments to prioritize digital infrastructure development as a foundational step towards integrating AI into various sec
