As part of the mid-term review of the 2021-2027 Cohesion Policy, the European Commission is urging EU member states and regions to adapt the ERDF, ESF+, CF, and JTF programs to the Union's new political priorities, directing more European funds towards competitiveness, defense, affordable housing promotion, water resilience, and energy transition. The Council Defends Cohesion Principles. Clarity Needed on National Plans

With the communication "A modernised Cohesion policy: The mid-term review", presented on April 1st, the Commission encourages EU countries to make Cohesion Policy more effective, in light of a significantly changed context since the adoption of the 2021-27 European funds co-financed programs.

Besides addressing emerging challenges such as competitiveness, decarbonization and energy transition, defense and security, affordable housing, and water resilience, Brussels recommends using the mid-term review of the 2021-2027 European funds co-financed programs to expand participation in the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP), which supports investments in strategic technologies for the green and digital twin transition and related supply chains.
