On May 7th, 2024, two Horizon Europe calls for proposals, under the umbrella of the Batt4EU Partnership, are scheduled to open. These calls fund Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) aimed to develop Generation 5 technologies for mobile applications, and strengthen the European production chain revolving around Lithium.

Both the calls fall under the "Cross-sectoral solutions for the climate transition" Destination, which focuses on offering pivotal solutions for climate, energy, and mobility applications. Aligned with the goals of the Horizon Europe Cluster 5, these domains include:
- batteries,
- hydrogen, with backing from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership,
- communities and cities, supported under the Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, along with the Driving Urban Transition,
- early-stage breakthrough technologies,
- citizen engagement.
Sustainable Lithium anodes production: goals of the call
Proposals submitted for this topic should encompass the following key elements:
- Establishing sustainable, cost-effective methods for the extensive production of Li-metal foils and/or electrodes. Activities may include extrusion, comparative extrusion/electrostatic spray, rolling, and co-rolling. However, the focus lies specifically on Lithium anodes production.
- Investigating the control of passivation in Lithium metal films and understanding its correlation with dry room conditions and requirements.
