European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib will host an Implementation Dialogue on EU Humanitarian Aid on 21 May in Brussels, back-to-back with the European Humanitarian Forum.

The dialogue will allow an exchange between the Commissioner and representatives from humanitarian aid organisations receiving funding from the European Commission to deliver EU humanitarian aid on the ground.

Objective

The general objective of this dialogue is to allow a discussion between the EU’s humanitarian partners and Commissioner Hadja Lahbib on the humanitarian landscape and how to strengthen EU humanitarian partnerships, to ultimately support the delivery of EU principled humanitarian aid for all people affected by crisis worldwide.

This event is designed to foster a deeper exchange between the Commission and its humanitarian partners and will be the first opportunity for the EU’s humanitarian partner organisations to meet with Commissioner Lahbib as a group. The exchange will be led by the Commissioner in coordination with umbrella organisations.

Participants

This event is upon invitation only, and in-person only. The event targets humanitarian aid organisations who get funding from the European Commission to deliver EU humanitarian aid on the ground.

This cohort of stakeholders are the most interested and affected by the relevant EU humanitarian policies and rules. The EU humanitarian partners include:

  • Non-governmental organisations
  • United Nations and its agencies
  • International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (EU National Red Cross Societies, IFRC and ICRC)
  • Members States’ specialised agencies

Background

President von der Leyen tasked all Commissioners to organise 2 Implementation Dialogues per year to align implementation with realities on the ground. This is the first of such dialogues for Commissioner Lahbib.

The European Commission continues to use other fora for discussion with Member States, businesses and civil society, such as strategic dialogues and expert meetings, and keeps generally open lines of communication, including bilateral ones, with all types of stakeholders.

Implementation Dialogues are an addition in view of the intensified efforts by the Commission as regards implementation and on-ground delivery.
