The Papua New Guinea National Power Sector Forum, scheduled for 3 April 2025 at APEC Haus, is organized by the Government of PNG and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to address critical issues, challenges, and opportunities in the energy sector, aiming to create an actionable roadmap for its development. The Forum will concentrate on two main strategic priorities: sector planning for future infrastructure development, which includes attracting private investment and accelerating the rollout of electrification to enhance renewable energy resources, and financial sustainability, focusing on utility reforms, privatization, and tariff frameworks. A results framework will be established, outlining key result areas, development interventions, and outcomes with indicators categorized into short-term (2025) and medium-term (2026–2030) goals. The primary objective of the Forum is to formulate an action plan that ensures the provision of reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy to foster comprehensive and inclusive economic growth. Participants will include Government of PNG Ministers and Senior Officials, ADB Management, energy sector agencies, development partners, academia, and representatives from both the public and private sectors. Notable speakers include James Marape, the Prime Minister of PNG, and various ADB officials, among others. Registration for the event will be available on the day of attendance, and participation is free. The event is organized in partnership with the ADB and the Government of Papua New Guinea.
