Conferences and summits: Annual Political Dialogue – Initiative for coal regions in transition

The next edition of the Initiative for coal regions in transition's Annual Political Dialogue will take place on 24-25 June 2025 in Konin, Poland, during the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. The 2025 conference will focus on coal, peat, and oil shale (coal+) regions’ pathways to a new identity based on competitiveness. It will explore how transitioning economies in coal+ regions can align with EU priorities under the Net Zero Industry Act as well as the future Clean Industrial Deal and Citizens' Energy Package. Key sessions will include speeches from political representatives of coal+ regions and high-level representatives from the EU, outlining the EU’s vision for competitiveness, energy affordability, and climate neutrality. Panel discussions will cover innovative pathways, policies, and technologies from coal+ regions, and will highlight diverse strategies for accelerating renewable energy transitions, while addressing economic, social, and legal challenges.
