EU launches first Solar Academy to boost clean energy transition

Worker installing solar panels: Credit - thisisengineering via PixabayThe European Commission has unveiled plans for the first European Solar Academy, a flagship initiative to rapidly upskill workers across the solar energy value chain and drive the bloc's transition to clean energy sources. The academy aims to provide training to over 100,000 people annually by 2025 in key solar roles like panel installers, technical designers, and project managers.

Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, stated, ‘Solar power is at the heart of our energy transition in Europe, with the potential to create thousands of jobs across our continent, at all stages of the industrial supply chain, from design through to manufacturing, installation and maintenance. The Net Zero Academy created by the Commission will help our European workers to embrace this exciting opportunity, and offer further support to meet our ambitious REPowerEU goals.
