EU Parliament approves ETS reform in new Fit for 55 package vote
As the European Parliament votes on the Fit for 55 package, MEPs split and return to the Environment Committee the proposals on the reform of Emission Trading Systeme, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and the Social Climate fund.
In a second vote after the few weeks ago rejection of parts of the Fit for 55 package, the EU Parliament approved the reform of the Emission Trading System for CO2 emissions, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and for a Social Climate fund. When MEPs presented, before the first vote, their position on the package at the heart of the green transition, they were hoping to find a balance in the plenary for the response to climate crisis and energy dependency, also in light of the impact of the war in Ukraine in the European energy situation.
