The EU Commission adopts first list of renewable energy cross-border projects

European Union, 2019 / Photographer: Bernard de KeyzerThe EU Commission adopted the first list of renewable energy cross-border projects in the context of the the Connecting Europe Facility, the funding instrument designed to enable the delivering of the European Green Deal and to reach the decarbonization objectives for 2030 and 2050.

The list sets the beginning of the implementation of new category of cross-border projects dedicated to renewable energy and decarbonization under the Connecting Europe Facility. These projects have the aim to promote cooperation among member states but also between EU and non-EU countries concerning the designing and the development of renewable energy sources.

The list include three cross-border projects, which involve a total of seven member states, and which are now eligible for financial support for studies and works under the Connecting Europe Facility Programme:

  • a hybrid offshore wind park between Estonia and Latvia;
  • a cross-border district heating grid based on RES between Germany and Pol
