The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors has approved three operations totaling $1.16 billion aimed at enhancing health services, improving water and sanitation, and promoting greener, climate-resilient development in Bangladesh. This funding is crucial for addressing the country's vulnerabilities to climate change and pollution.

"Bangladesh is among the most vulnerable countries to climate change and faces immense pollution challenges. Improving climate resilience in every sector and tackling pollution has become a critical development priority," said Abdoulaye Seck, World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan.

1. Second Bangladesh Green and Climate Resilient Development Credit - $500 million

This operation supports reforms aimed at transitioning Bangladesh towards a green economy. Key components include:

  • Improving public planning and financing for climate-resilient interventions.
  • Promoting clean production and resource-efficient services.
  • Reducing air pollution and enhancing environmental enforcement.
  • Expanding access to carbon markets.
  • Improving sustainable water and sanitation services.
  • Advancing the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100.
