The pharmaceutical industry plays an essential role in our daily lives. Medicines and medical technologies can significantly improve both the quality and expectancy of life by curing diseases, alleviating symptoms, and preventing the onset of other conditions. Despite the many positive aspects, the process of developing and producing medicines also has negative externalities on the environment. Among these are not only air, soil, and water pollution but also, for example, the accumulation of waste from drug packaging.
In this context, the new call "Space for Sustainable Pharma" launched by ESA seeks solutions that can minimize the environmental impact of the sector by leveraging the potential advantages that space technologies - from data from Earth observation applications to information provided by the global satellite navigation system - can offer.
