The European Commission has adopted the Strategic Plan 2025-2027 for Horizon Europe. Announced at the annual 'Research and Innovation Days' event, Horizon Europe's 2025-2027 Strategic Plan outlines directions to address key global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, digital transition and an ageing population.
Furthermore, the document identifies open strategic autonomy and ensuring Europe's leading role in the development and deployment of critical technologies as the overarching principles that will apply to all three programme orientations.
Horizon Europe: the resources of the 2025-2027 Strategic Plan
The Strategic Plan commits to allocate 10 percent of the total Horizon Europe budget for the 2025-2027 period to biodiversity-related topics. This new commitment complements the existing targets for climate spending (35 percent) and key digital activities (13 billion over the same period).
