The commitment of the EU to affordable housing, a key theme of the von der Leyen Commission, is being addressed for the first time with a dedicated commissioner. This initiative intersects with major EU funding policies, from Cohesion to the CAP, also involving the EIB.

The European Parliament is ready to contribute, with the special committee on the housing crisis (HOUS) chaired by Italian Irene Tinagli, who clarified yesterday: no prejudice or predefined boundaries, but a search for flexible and targeted tools for the housing emergency.
Coinciding with the joint event organized by the European Parliament and the Commission "Affordable Housing: Addressing the Housing Crisis in the European Union," yesterday the chair of the special HOUS committee, Irene Tinagli, held a press briefing to outline the newly initiated path. This path will lead to the EP report to be forwarded to the European Commission, responsible for the European Affordable Housing Plan, postponed from 2025 to early 2026.
