PRIMA: the EP agrees on carrying on the programme under Horizon Europe
On February 27th, 2024, the European Parliament approved the prosecution of the PRIMA programme under the Horizon Europe framework, furthering the EU's financial participation in this project. The consensus follows a previous agreement between the EP and the EU Council, reached on December 13th, 2023.
The Partnership on Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) aims to address pressing challenges in the management of water and agri-food systems across the Mediterranean basin by developing innovative solutions. The ten-year initiative (2018-2028) is partly supported by Horizon 2020 funding, with a 220 million euros contribution, and partly from the participating Member States, with another endowment of 274 million euros.
The involved countries are Croatia, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey, with bilateral international agreements for the participation of Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Morocco
