The European Parliament asked to use special instruments for the 2023 EU budget. A hard tug-of-war is expected
In a voted during the penary session in Stasbourg the European Parliament voted its position on the EU 2023 draft budget, by endorsing with no significant changes the amendments backed by the Committee on Budgets.
First, MEPs are calling for an increase of 1.7 billion euro in commitment appropriations compared to the 185.6 billion euro in the European Commission's proposal, which was further reduced by 0.9% to 183.9 billion euro when the Council adopted its preliminary position on the draft budget. The level of payment appropriations endorsed by the Committee on Budget is 167.6 billion euro. This total is more ambitious than the 166.3 billion level proposed by the Commission and the 165.7 billion euro level proposed by the Member States.
