Training and workshops: Workshop: Perspectives on a Purchasing Programme for CRCF Permanent Carbon Removal Credits
On 21 May 2025, Ecologic Institute, on behalf of the Directorate-General for Climate Action of the European Commission, is organising a half-day workshop presenting perspectives on a purchasing programme for CRCF Permanent Carbon Removal Credits.
This interactive workshop aims to support the swift development and deployment of a purchasing programme to accelerate the market for permanent carbon removal in Europe. The discussions will contribute to the study on the design and near-term implementation of a potential purchasing programme for CRCF permanent carbon removal credits.
Two key questions will shape the workshop:
- What are the needs and motivations of permanent carbon removal buyers and funders?
- What is the most effective design for a purchasing programme to support technology development and market scaling in the short-term, considering purchase and financing methods, and other practical implementation aspects?
Key participants will include potential buyers and funders of a purchasing programme, including forward-looking corporates and public institutions with net zero objectives, and public and private banks. They will be joined by selected stakeholders representing carbon removal suppliers, civil society, and policy, as well as purchasing programme experts.
By invite only, limited spaces available onsite. Webstreaming of the event will be available on the day.
