On 5 June 2024, the public event "Let’s Reduce Consumer Food Waste! Solutions from the European Consumer Food Waste Forum" took place in Brussels. The gathering brought together 150 key stakeholders and another 300 online, dedicated to preventing consumer food waste. Participants were representatives from both public and private sectors; from local, regional and national authorities, businesses and other organisations (consumer and environmental NGOs, food banks and other charities), universities, etc. The participants shared the latest initiatives; including those addressing consumer behaviour change, and discussed how the solutions from the European Consumer Food Waste Forum can support their work. Also at the event, the Toolkit to reduce consumer food waste was launched, containing video tutorials, interactive and practical tools, reports and informative leaflets in 24 languages.

For those who missed the event - check the inspiring presentations and posters from experts below in the agenda and the recordings of the event available in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Dutch.

Background information
The Joint Research Centre, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety set up the European Consumer Food Waste Forum. This network of international practitioners and researchers has identified a variety of evidence-based, practical solutions to reduce food waste at the consumer level, including household and food services. Their findings were published in a Compendium of tools, best practices, and recommendations to help all key players engaging in actions to prevent food waste. This, and all dissemination products are found on the Toolkit to reduce consumer food waste.
