Future of Horizon Europe: into the new EU Competitiveness Fund and implications for Research and Innovation

The potential absorption of the successor to Horizon Europe - namely the tenth Framework Programme for Research and Innovation - into the new European Competitiveness Fund announced by the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, should be welcomed with a positive spirit and a constructive approach. 

This is the invitation from Maria Cristina Russo, Director of the Prosperity Directorate - DG RTD of the European Commission, who spoke at the Apre 2024 annual conference. The event addressed several key elements of the debate on the future of R&I funding in Europe.

In recent weeks, there has been talk of 'rumors' about the future of Horizon Europe, and it now seems to be a concrete hypothesis regarding the possible allocation of European funds intended for the Tenth Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10) within the new European Competitiveness Fund that will be part of the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028-2034.
