ERDERA partnership: latest news on funding for rare disease research

Photo by Pavel Danilyuk from PexelsWith a budget of 380 million euros until 2031, the new European partnership on rare diseases ERDERA (European Rare Diseases Research Alliance) aims to open a new phase in the field of research and transnational cooperation on the subject, building on the results achieved by previous partnerships. ERDERA is supported by Horizon Europe, in tandem with other public funding, provided by countries and regions, as well as private funding (companies).

Launched this month, ERDERA integrates over 170 organizations from the public and private sectors to promote research on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of rare diseases.

How many rare diseases are there?

Currently, there are about 7,000 rare and ultra-rare diseases diagnosed, for most of which there is still no therapeutic option. 

A tide that affects over 300 million people worldwide, who often face a long journey to receive a diagnosis, which typically takes four years for known diseases, when things go well.
