With over 150 million patent documents, the EPO manages the world's largest source of freely accessible patent information. A valuable mine of technical information that can be used to develop new ideas and allow researchers to build on existing innovations, as well as help investors and policymakers monitor technological trends and make informed decisions.

All this can in turn form the basis for unlocking solutions to the urgent global challenges identified in the UN SDGs.

The EPO CodeFest Spring 2025

In this context, the EPO has launched the third edition of the CodeFest, a competition open to data enthusiasts, corporate social responsibility professionals, intellectual property professionals, developers, programmers, and data scientists. Specifically, the EPO Code Challenge is open to individuals aged 18 and over, either individually or in teams of up to 5 people.
