568 million euros for the European rail network research and innovation
The Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking 2022-1 will soon enjoy 568,4 million euros in funds coming from the first Call for Proposals for rail research & innovation projects.
In particular, the six flagship projects, will have a direct impact in the areas of European rail network management, automation and digitalisation. This will ultimately favouring sustainable and resilient systems, rail freight in the supply chain perspective, and a better network across European regions.
“This summer we saw an increase of rail passengers in many parts of Europe. Unfortunately, we also saw crowded trains and congested stations, raising questions as to whether our rail system is able to cope with the increased demand", said Henrik Hololei, Director-General for Mobility and Transport at the European Commission.
