Agri food trade raises in value as commodities prices surge
The last report released by the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission shows how the EU agri-food trade continues to adapt to the global commodity price surge, giving a glance also to the evolution of agri-food trade flows since the beginning of the new century.
Mainly thanks to the continuing growth in prices of commodities, EU agri-food trade had a great bound in May 2022, with an increase of 11% month-to-month and of 32% compared to May 2021, reaching a total value of €34.9 billion, €19.4 billion of which in exports and €15.6 billion in imports. Compared to April, EU exports and imports grew by 8% and 15% respectively, while, compared to May 2021, they grew by 21% and 48%.
