Utilization of the schemes by satisfactory satisfactory farme rs is ongoing. The construction of Wadelai irrigation scheme stands at 85.22 and works will be completed by end of February 2023. Delayed completion of works for the construction of Wadelai irrigation scheme are largely attributed to contractor's cash flo w constraints. The original construction of Tochi Irrigation Scheme, was completed on 31st September, 2021. However, the unprecedented heavy rains, resulted in flooding of River Tochi and adversely affected most of the irrigation scheme. This prompted re quest for construction of additional works to improve the functionality of the scheme. This included construction of flood protection dykes, access roads, canal crossing slabs and a drying yard. The additional works are expected to be finalized by the end of March 2023. ADB alone stands at 84.98, while NDF 86.62 and GoU Counterpart funding 100. The main reason for low disbursement rate was slow progress of works. However, measures have been instituted to speedup activit y implementation at the different schemes. The projected disbursement is expected to be 100 by end of June 2023. Agricultural Infrastructure Development Component AID; u The construction for the 3 irrigation schemes namely: Ngenge, Doho II, and Mubuk u II stands at 100 completion level. All the contractors were cleared and utilization of the schemes by farmers is ongoing These schemes are currently awaiting handing over to farmers and other relevant stakeholders. u The original construction of Toch i Irrigation Scheme, was completed on 31st September, 2021. However, the unprecedented heavy rains, resulted in flooding of River Tochi and adversely affected most of the irrigation scheme. This prompted re -scoping of additional works to improve the functi onality of the scheme. This will include construction of flood protection dykes, access roads, canal crossing slabs and a drying yard. The additional works are expected to be finalized by the end of March 2023. u The construction of Wadelai irrigation sch eme stands at 85.22. The respective activity progress is as follows; Head works 87.72, main canal 82.3, secondary canal 1 and associated structures 96.14, secondary canal 2 and associated structures 80.0, secondary canal 3 and associated struc tures 70.0, secondary canal 4 and associated structures 9.7, secondary canal 5 and associated structures 12.5, access and scheme roads 89.2, scheme buildings and facilities 92.9 and clearance of farmland 23.3. It is envisaged that the sch eme will be completed by end of February 2023. u Each irrigation scheme has an established Farmer -based Management Organizations Irrigation Water User Association FBMOsIWUAs. This has greatly contributed to enhancement of farmers' capacity for sustain able management of the irrigation schemes. u The construction of the 5 irrigation schemes will contribute an additional 4, 060 hectares of new irrigated land of which Tochi -500 ha, Mubuku II -480 ha, Doho II -1200 ha, Ngenge -880 ha, and Wadelai -1,000ha with a corresponding storage capacity 10.72million m3 in Tochi, 270,000 m3 in Ngenge, and 150,000 m3 Mubuku II, leading to a total of 11.19 MCM, to benefit about 7,393 farmers. Agribusiness Development Component AD; u A total of Shs. 2,343,868,330 was dis bursed to support 103 youth agripreneurs in their various agricultural value chain business cases of which 20 of the agripreneurs were from Kasese, 16 from Butaleja, 26 from Kween, 24 from Tochi and 17 from Wadelai. So far Shs 194,000,000 8.1 has been r epaid in all regions u At least 442 direct and 1,030 indirect jobs were created. highly satisfactory satisfactory u A total of 14,676 farmers 4,814 females; 6,187 youth compared to the target of 10,000 farmers benefited from post -harvest handling, food processing technologies, and bes t management aspects of production. u Farmers who benefited from training on postharvest technologies for rice are 5,040 1,671women: 1,921youth, apiculture 3,579, aquaculture 1 ,852 403 females: 544 youth and horticulture 4,205 1,624 females: 2,241 y outh. u At least 6,156 beneficiaries trained in best horticultural practices compared to the target of 2,500 farmers, while 197 have benefited from village savings and loan associations VSLAs; u 30 savings and credit cooperative organization SACCOs were trained in financial accessibility and financial management skills benefiting 4 ,728 farmers against a target of 7,500 farmers. u Under Climate Smart Agriculture CSA, a total of 13,927 farmers have been trained composed of rice 4,541, apiculture 2,315, and horticulture 7,071. Integrated Natural Resources Management Component INRM; u A total of 9.2 million assorted tree seedlings were distributed of which 22.7 was distributed to females and 77.3 to males. u At least 9,100ha degraded hots pots were restored while 470.07 km of riverbanks in the 5 catchments were restored, with beating - up replacement of lost trees and maintenance activities of the already restored. u A total of 2,670 farmers were trained within the catchment areas in Fore st Planning and Management, while 2,519 farmers were trained 50.4 were trained in Agro -forestry and conservation forestry compared to the targeted 5,000, 10 exchange visits, two per catchment, involving over 120 farmers were also facilitated by the proj ect and 12 demonstration sites were established in the five catchment hotspot districts Project Management Component PMC; u The project management continued with preparation of Annual work plan and budget for the Financial Year 202223, performance mon itoring reports, held a number of coordination activities including seven 7 bi -weekly project review and planning meetings, u The project management team carried out 2 routine field visits on safeguards monitoring in the Wadelai Irrigation scheme. In addition, construction of Wadelai irrigation scheme stands at 85.22 an d expected to be finalized by end of February 2023. As the completion of the project draws nearer, there is commitment to the implementation of the remaining outputs of the project in line with the objectives, expected outcomes and goals. It is envisaged t hat with extension of the project to June 2023, all outstanding project activities will be attained.
