The second call for applications for the EU coal regions exchange about to get out
The second call for applications under the exchangeEU program for coal regions in the EU to support the implementation of the Just Energy Transition strategies is about to be launched.
Coal still represents an important part of European electricity production as well as an economic engine for more than 230,000 people employed in mines and power plants in 31 EU regions. That's why in launching its Green Deal, the European Commission wanted to study ad hoc tools that would ensure a "just" green transition for these territories.
Instruments such as exchangeEU, the exchange program for coal, lignite, peat and oil shale producing regions, also known as "coal+ regions” was launched in November 2021 and it is part of the broader Coal Regions in Transition initiative, which is implemented by a consortium led by Guidehouse, on behalf of the Commission.
