The EU Commission kicks off second European Defense Fund work programme

European Union, 2018/Photographer: Thomas PadillaWith a total of €924 million in funding, the 2022 annual work programme is built around 8 calls to address 16 categories consisting in 33 topics related to defense and research in areas ranging from space, to naval combat, to cybersecurity, and information superiority.

The European Commission adopted the second annual work programme of the European Defense Fund (EDF), that will allocate a total of €924 million in funding to strengthen EU defense capabilities and new tools for defense innovation, following the Joint Communication on Defense Investment gaps that the European Commission presented last week to propose, for the first time ever in the history of EU, to use money from the European budget to promote joint procurement in the area of arms, and, more generally, to boost industrial defense cooperation throughout Europe.
