European Green Deal: New agreement on sustainable fuels for shipping to face maritime transport emissions

Photo Credit: Pexels The European Parliament and the Council have reached a new agreement to increase the maritime transport sector's contribution to reaching the EU-wide target of climate neutrality by 2050.

Co-legislators have agreed on FuelEU Maritime, a measure that will help decarbonise the maritime transport sector by setting maximum limits on the yearly greenhouse gas intensity produced by a ship. This agreement is another important step in the adoption of the Commission's Fit for 55 legislative package to deliver on the European Green Deal, which aims at reaching climate neutrality by 2050.
