According to the DSA, online platforms, such as social media and marketplaces, will have to take new measures to protect users from illegal content and goods.

Large online platforms and services will be subject to stricter obligations, proportionate to the risks they pose to society. Big-tech companies will have to be more transparent about their operations and act to prevent the spread of disinformation and adverse effects on fundamental rights. Targeted advertising will be restricted and 'dark patterns' and other misleading practices will be banned.

"The regulation on a single market for digital services is one of the most innovative horizontal EU laws and I am convinced that it has the potential to become the 'gold standard' for other regulators around the world," explains Jozef Síkela, Minister of Industry and Trade
