How does the new regulation on fertilizers work?
Today it comes into force a new EU regulation to boost the use of organic and waste-based fertilizers in the European Union and give a nudge towards a more sustainable agricolture.
The New Regulation consists of 53 articles and 5 annexes containing rules on making EU fertilizer products available on the market. At present, all member states have their own national rules on fertilizers, and the free circulation among them takes place through mutual recognition, a system that becomes inconvenient when there are divergent national rules that can lead to additional costs for companies and difficulties in controlling the products.
Compared to the EC Regulation 2003/03 in force until yesterday, in the new one the approach changes a lot. While the first one explains how to produce each fertilizer, the second one focuses on the constituent materials that can be used, the processes that they must undergo, and the products that mus
