PrepDSpace4Mobility, the 12-months coordination launched in October 2022, is a support action funded under the Digital Europe Programme, with a budget of 1 million euros. The consortium includes 17 partners from 7 Member States (Belgium, Germany, Finland, France, Hungary, Netherlands, and Spain). It is coordinated by Acatech, the German Academy of Science and Engineering.

It has made a major step towards in completing its first task, i.e. mapping existing mobility data-related ecosystems and initiatives, and creating a catalogue summarising them, including valuable information about the type and quality of data.

The inventory includes almost 400 data sharing initiatives in Europe in the mobility and logistics sector inclusive of European, national, and local level or private actors. 229 of those are available to be explored on an interactive map on the project’s website.

The goal of the common European mobility data space is to provide technical infrastructure and a governance framework to make it easier to access and share data in a controlled and secure way for both passengers and freight.

More specifically, the project is expected to benefit citizens, facilitating seamless multimodal trips; businesses, thanks to the exchanging of data with partners across the logistics chain; and public authorities, as they should be able to better monitor and plan transport systems.

PrepDSpace4Mobility will not replace existing initiatives, for this reason the second step of the project is based on an in-depth analysis of the initiatives that are already present and active. This allows to find gaps and overlaps of private, public, or industrial data sharing initiatives, and to propose common building blocks and a common framework to build up on in coordination with engaged stakeholders.

The project contributes to the European strategy for data. It directly supports the objective of deploying interoperable data spaces in key sectors. It also contributes to the European sustainable and smart mobility strategy.
