From the Covid emergency to the war in Ukraine, via the effects of inflation and the management of migration flows, the socio-economic environment of the European Union is rapidly changing and is increasingly linked to geopolitical dynamics on an international scale. To enable policymakers to better cope with these changes, Brussels has focused its efforts on various European initiatives including the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.

On this framework programme, in fact, the European Commission has invested nearly 460 million euros in the years 2021 and 2022 to promote research in the cultural and social sectors, subsequently increasing its financial commitment to more than 545 million for the two-year period 2023-2024.
